When you visit Chennai, make sure to take out a day and visit Vellore which is just 145 kms away. This city in Tamilnadu is not a hotspot from tourism point of view, but it does make for a worthwhile visit during Chennai tourism.
The most important attraction of Vellore is the Vijaynagar Fort, which dates back to the 16th century. Then, there is the Vellamalai temple, dedicated to the 2nd wife of Lord Murugan. Other than these two, places to visit in Vellore also includes Clock Tower, Sripuram Golden Temple,Palamathi Hills, Ramanashramam and St.Johns Church.
To reach Vellore by air, you can either use the Chennai airport or land at Bangalore airport which is 103 kms away. The Katpadi railway stations is closest to Vellore. Buses operate from major south India destinations like Chennai and Bangalore. You can take a bus from any of these destination to visit Vellore on your Tamilnadu tourism.
